Deh Cho (Big River) 1,700 km from Hay River to Inuvik
What to expect?
The dreaded word mosquito as spoken by the South Slavery, the Tlicho, the Gwich'in and the Inuvialutin peoples.
There are 74 species of mosquito in Canada. We will likely be bitten by 45% of these species.
From start to finish, the voyage will travel through nine remote northern communities, most of which are accessible only by the river. On average, the communities are about 100km apart, with the longest stretch from Wrigley to Tulita 254km.
Dene people of the Deh Cho
The homeland of the people is part of the ancestral territories and waters of the Dehcho Dene. "We were put here by the Creator as keepers of our waters and lands".
“If the whole world followed the Dehcho First Nations example this world would be a much better place to live.”
